Scalford Hall

On February 10th Flora Button attended Scalford Hall's wedding fayre.
There was a real buzz around the stall, many people liked the unusual twig heart decorated with ivy, gypsophila and eyrmgrum.
We took a range of other products with us including a shower bouquet and a pair of hand tied bouquets.





I recently found a birds nest while outside gardening, I believe it once was the home of a black bird family! This was so cute I decided it would be the perfect container for some snowdrops! Although real nests may not be possible for a wedding a similar concept could create beautifully natural table decorations.

Cabbage Patch

Brassica bouquets are the biggest new trend in cut flowers right now.
Not only are they loved by shoppers but they are also creating an extra income for the UK's brassica growers who have now found a new market for their produce.
The bouquets are only sold in the autumn, during the UK brassica season but, even more importantly, the ornamental variety isn't edible, so no nibbling!

 

Brassica come in three basic hues — greens, creamy whites and violets. The stems and leaves are tough and waxy and they remain fresh as cut “flowers” for a solid week, making them a wonderful option for floral arranging.  They look great with lilies, lisianthus and leaves!

Autumn Colour

This bouquet was created for the Macmillan fund raising event in Leicester on Friday. Inspiration comes from the rich colours of autumn – this bouquet of asters, sedum, viburnum and alstromaeria oozes the season of mellow fruitfulness.

Andy Goldsworthy inspired work with autumn leaves, try it yourself  to create a sculpture in golds, reds and russets! My two youngest children have been giving it a go and came up with some lovely arrangements!

 



Weddings, Weddings, Weddings!

 August was a very busy month at Flora Button HQ, we had 3 weddings in 3 weeks!
The first was a country style wedding! With a hint of the retro with a vw split screen camper van! Creations for this wedding included a headband for the bride, nine button hole arrangements and a selection of hand-tied bouquets for the bride and her bridesmaids!

The second wedding was held in kibworth, the highlight of the arrangements was a wonderful teardrop bouquet! The teardrop can be notoriously difficult however I felt this one went extremely well!

The third wedding was based on a country theme with the bride wanting a meadowy look in pastel colours. One of the wedding guests commented afterwards that the banqueting table around which they enjoyed their reception looked like it had been strewn with flowers that had just been picked from the middle of the countryside! Whimsical and quirky also featured in other compliments to the arrangements.
